Guyana Summer Mission Trip

“He is the divine portrait, the true likeness of the invisible God, and the firstborn heir of all creation. For in Him was created the universe of things, both in the heavenly realm and on the earth, all that is seen and all that is unseen. Every seat of power, realm of government, principality, and authority – it all exists through Him and for His purpose.” Col. 1:15-16 (TPT).

These verses were the theme of the Vacation Bible School taught at Save-R-Kids (SRK) Children’s Home, an orphanage in Guyana in July 2018. Dogwood Church and Frontline Missions taught the children to “Discover the God of the universe” through worship, songs, games, crafts, storytelling, and a drama on the Fall of Man. They built special relationships with the children as they spent time playing with and pouring into them. The week wrapped up with a highly anticipated, yearly trip to the Jubilee Resort, a small water park.

They also took on a major project to construct a concrete pad with clothesline poles. Over 100 cubic feet of concrete had to be mixed, wheel-barrowed, dumped, floated, and brushed for the 15’ by 20’ pad, which was prepped with 3 to 4” of compressed sand. Once the concrete was laid, six 9’ poles were erected for the clotheslines. This created the necessary facility to dry the five loads of laundry that the Home does each day!

Two former Save-R-Kids children also labored in this venture. The team was also able to complete two sidewalks along with the laundry project. Quite the accomplishment amidst the rainstorms!

It was an exceedingly rewarding and exhausting week. The team was reluctant to part ways, but thankful for the strong bonds that God had orchestrated with the children at Save-R-Kids!
